Thursday April 21 - Heart Dissection!

On Thursday we dissected a heart! But before all the cutting, we took a quiz on the heart, parts of the part, and functions those parts carry out. This dissection was on UP27-32. Before you cut the heart ''like a doughnut'' Mrs.Stein quizzed each lab group to make sure you knew the parts of the heart. Then we cut it in half, and examined in interior of the heart. Gross, right? But actually there were some neat things you could do. If you stuck one finger through the pulmonary artery and another through the superior vena cava (I think) you could touch your fingers!
The homework due on Monday were as follows:

Monday April 25 - Pulse Lab
At the start of class, we got back some graded work and a grade report! We went over our quizzes and overall, the average was a C. Today before beginning a lab we talked about your pulse, just to get a gist of things before the lab. For the lab we worked in partners. We first tested our resting heart rate and then did several activities meant to increase of slow down your heart rate such as holding your breath or exercising.
The homework from today is as follows:
Read AND annotate UP33-35
Finish Pulse Lab - Due Thursday!

Plants are interesting...more or less

Hello! Classes today were shortened by the late arrival and in the time we had we took a quiz on photosynthesis after the 'Plant of the Day' which is the moss ball. We won't be taking much notes in class anymore but doing plenty of labs! We have a lab tomorrow that will take two days and another new lab on Friday. Here's helpful diagram of the light-dependent process of photosynthesis:

Question on Homework

I didn't finish and when I went back to complete my homework I went under Cloning to answer #3 under "D. Cloning" but I couldn't find Cloning in Focus! Did I miss something?

Today's class got interesting toward the end, but let's start with the beginning. We turned in Unit Packet pages 7-14. There were there little picture handouts to pick up as you came in. Homework from the weekend was read 12.3. So to make sure we read it, we took a mini quiz reviewing info covered. Next, we labeled the pictures:

The remainder of class was where it got interesting because we talked about...CLONING! We talked about how people are trying to clone a woolly mammoth, animals, and humans and why? We were going to watch a movie about the Human Genome but we didn't have time so we will watch it tomorrow. Mrs. Stein said she only had about 5 cancer papers left to grade and we might get them back tomorrow! FIN

Cancer Paper

what should the font size be for the cancer paper????? and if there is no article and you get your info from, for example WebMD, do we just put that in the citation??? also are you just not able to use 'you' in the opening and conclusion, or the entire paper????

Cells

Hello everyone! Today was pretty much a normal day in Bio...

We started off by turning in and/or getting a stamp the homework from yesterday:

1.) UP pgs. 9-14
2.) The organelle chart (stamp)

Next thing we did was we went over the organelle chart. To make things more clear on the different functions of all the structures in a cell Mrs. Stein showed us a slide show. In the slide show she showed us information about the nucleus, ribosomes, ER, golgi bodies, and chloroplasts. If you missed the slide show or missed something you can find the slide show at the bottom.


For the rest of class we worked on homework or did the microscope test (if it wasn't done already).

The homework is the following:

1.) Finish colorcodes w/ Annotations of readings
2.) Read pgs. 226-228 and 250+251 w/"Check My Understanding"
