Video Thoughts?

Did anyone have any thoughts about Friday's film? I have seen that film many times now, and everytime I watch it I always really admire those 'disease warriors' who worked so tirelessly to bring vaccines to remote parts of the world. I feel that so many people are only concerned with themselves... to travel to places like India and Africa to try and rid the world of such horrible diseases really says something about those volunteers.. They really made a difference in the world... not everyone can say they have done so. How amazing would it be to be able to rid the world of HIV like they did with smallpox? What were your thoughts? Reply to my post with a comment as to what your thoughts or reflections were on the movie.

  1. i have never really known or have seen the effect of small pox and i thought it was a very informational film that taught me a lot of info about small pox. i think not many people are aware of the effects of small pox in third world countries. and how people would travel all over to eradicate the disease i thought was amazing.

  2. I didn't even know small pox was that big of an issue until I saw that movie, I didn't know what it did to your body. It was shocking!! I feel like we should be more informed of the diseases that is disrupting the life of other countries as well, rather than just knowing what disease has been spreading in the United States, sort of like Swine Flu. The news should explain to us more of what is going on in other countries so that way we are informed and can do something about it. Most of us won't know about diseases like small pox until a movie like the one we saw came out. Instead of watching what had happened, one should see what WILL happen, so we can get together as a country and help that third world country fight it off. But what those guys did was pretty amazing!!

  3. What they did was an amazing thing. By putting their lives on risk, they helped save thousands of other peoples. I understand that some families spiritual reasons may not have allowed them to take the vaccination, and when the people with the vaccinations were talking to them, they were trying to explain to them what the vaccine would do instead of just telling them that their wrong. Like Vicki, I didnt know that small pox was this big of an issue. I really enjoyed being able to watch this movie and I think thats how most of the class feels too. If everyone had the courage of the men and women who spread the vaccine, then who knows what advancements we could make.

  4. I never knew a disease like small pox could spread so easily! I loved the way people were putting their lives in risk by vaccinationg others. It was very depressing looking at the children's faces filled with small pox and them not being able to do anything! I think we should be more informed about these types of diseases and not have to see a movie to find out about it. I feel everyone should know what is happening in the world around us. By people vaccinating others they saved so many peoples lives that would have been lost if it weren't for them! I enjoyed watching this video because it showed me how fortunate we are to get vaccinated whenever we feel that it is needed.

  5. Before I watched that movie I didnt know actually how bad diseases can get in parts of the world that vacinnes can't get to. I cant believe how horrible the small pox disease is and how it has such an effect on places in poverty. Then movie kind of makes you want to do something to help out those country with horrible diseases that havent been treated yet. If I ever got the opertunity to do that and help out I would love to. I really admire them and I congradulate them in helping demolish a horrible terrible disease.
